As safe as houses: EyeNut for Social Housing
Lighting has a crucial role to play in social housing facilities, not only for ensuring an adequate level of illumination for residents but also guaranteeing their safety through emergency lighting.
Despite this, and the fact that the UK is home to some 3.6 million social housing properties, the adoption of innovative LED lighting technologies remains surprising low. In fact, only 15% of associations use LED technology in their properties, with just 9% of businesses having self-testing emergency lighting systems in place.
As a pioneer in the design, development and manufacturer of the next generation of smart lighting solutions, we have developed a range of web-based, Internet of Things (IoT) enabled solutions for social housing – including our EyeNut wireless lighting control system. But just what makes EyeNut the perfect solution for social housing?
Social housing providers have to adhere to very strict emergency regulations, such as the Emergency Lighting Code of Practice BS5266:1 2016, which not only require emergency lighting to be functional at all times, but also necessitate monthly and yearly functional and duration tests on all emergency luminaires.
EyeNut’s emergency functionality allows users to automate scheduling of monthly and yearly functional and duration tests, with results exported for audit tracking through the EyeNut Graphic User Interface (GUI).
Central multi-site control
Facilities managers of social housing associations are often tasked with managing large multi-site estates, with facilities located across several buildings and sites. Monitoring and managing lighting can, therefore, prove extremely problematic. As a cloud-based, remote access control system, EyeNut gives users the freedom to commission, configure and control indoor and outdoor lighting with multi-site control from a single intuitive interface.
The sizeable cost of lighting remained a drain on the budget of many social housing associations, and with extensive estates, the desire to reduce energy usage across housing blocks remains top of the agenda. With the data reporting function of EyeNut, facilities managers can gain access to accurate real-time energy data, such as kilowatt/hours’ usage, energy hot spots and energy savings. Maintenance can also been dramatically improved, as any lamp failures are reported immediately, enabling necessary repairs to be made.
Our emergency lighting solutions are proven in the field, having been installed in a range of applications, including at leading social housing provider Peabody. For more information about the installation, read the full case study on our website.
