Shining a light on LED driver technology
LED driver technology is advancing more rapidly than ever before, with the latest enhancements allowing for greater connectivity, communication and flexibility in a multitude of lighting applications.
In this blog, we explore the developing technologies behind the progression and explain the features and benefits they are delivering for OEMs and specifiers…
At Harvard Technology, we have taken a fresh approach to LED driver design, with a focus on OEMs keen to deliver connectivity and innovative features to their SSL products.
By incorporating a market leading advanced primary control integrated circuit, together with a new automotive quality integrated circuit, our CoolLED Pro drivers deliver outstanding performance within an ultra-slim, low profile form factor. It is such advanced circuitry that also ensures the entire range is compatible with EyeNut, allowing wireless programmability and control.
LED drivers are also evolving to meet application-specific demands. In the past, such demands have often been based around functionality such as dimming, but increasingly OEMS and specifiers are seeking more advanced features based that can include the Internet of Things (IoT) connectivity.
The optimised design and inbuilt intelligence of our CoolLED Pro range provides accurate diagnostic information on the driver and the surrounding environment. This delivers an open interface for OEM customers to take the stored information and integrate this into their proprietary applications or control systems – for a smarter, more connected lighting network.
Efficiency remains a critical concern for OEMs – our CoolLED Pro range achieves impressive results in efficacy, up to 84% in 15W drivers and 87.5% in 40W drivers. This efficiency combined with meticulous design and high-quality components leads to an impressive long lifespan, which in many cases is superior to comparable single stage design drivers.
Further developments of the CoolLED Pro range are planned for early 2018, so keep your eyes peeled.
