We are a professional small business that has seen significant growth in recent years. Key to our success is our friendly team of skilled, highly capable employees and an immensely collaborative working environment. We are proud to be home to some very skilled and experienced colleagues; from our operations team who strive to ensure our products come to life in a world class manufacturing facility to our technically astute engineers who continue to develop and deliver fresh, innovative solutions.
As the business has grown we’ve developed the structure and procedures to enable us to work both creatively and efficiently. That said, we recognise that people aren’t robots, we don’t restrict ourselves with red tape and we often find that the best way to progress matters is to have a conversation with our colleagues. Both peers and managers will provide you with the support and guidance needed and in return you’ll support others by working cooperatively and communicating openly.
Our on-site manufacturing facility enables a close relationship between all colleagues involved in the product lifecycle. This enables questions to be answered quickly and change to be implemented rapidly. Life at Harvard is therefore exciting, fast paced and dynamic and because we strive to improve and we continue to bring innovative new products to the market, there’s endless opportunities to make a difference, add value and of course to be recognised and rewarded for this.

Meet the Team
I joined Harvard as a Production Operative just over 8 years ago and now work as LED Operations Manager, I commute to work from Bradford, and I am responsible for our production facility, including around 150 production based employees. Harvard has given me the significant opportunity to both develop and progress.
For me, there are two things that I really value about working at Harvard. The first is the people – there’s never a dull moment at Harvard and change is a constant, but I know that my colleagues are on hand to support me. The second is the pride I get from seeing a product brought to life on a daily basis within our own UK manufacturing facility – we continue to develop and build new products and for me that means that I get job variety and that no two days are the same.
Harvard operates globally, with sales representation in France, Italy, Germany, Benelux, Nordics and the Middle East as well as our sister office in sunny San Diego, California. At the hub of our activity is our site in Normanton, West Yorkshire; home to our Head Office, laboratory and manufacturing facility. Those of us that work here find that the location has a number of benefits:
We’re located just off junction 31 of the M62 and therefore easily commutable from across and around the Yorkshire area. It takes around 30 minutes to walk to site from Normanton train station, so if you’re cutting down on carbon emissions or you favour a refreshing walk in the morning, then this may be your preferred option.
We have an on-site car park for employee use and whilst our growth means that space is sometimes limited, there’s plenty of on-road parking nearby. Either way it’s free and that’s why we find our Normanton site to be a great benefit in comparison to being based in Leeds City Centre.
In the Area
We’ve got a great subsidised staff restaurant on site but getting out and about in your lunch break is possible too. We’re very close to Xscape, Junction 32 Retail Outlet and there’s also a large supermarket and Wakefield city centre just down the road too. So whether it’s a bit of last minute shopping, a catch up with colleagues or a team outing, it’s all available right on our doorstep. Leeds city centre is a little further afield but a very popular destination for the social events that Harvard hosts and the more informal team nights out that regularly occur.
Living in Yorkshire
Numerous colleagues aren’t ‘Yorkshire born and bred’ and have taken the decision to relocate in order to pursue a career with Harvard. So, what does Yorkshire have to offer? Well the best of both worlds really– the stunning natural beauty of the countryside and in contrast, vibrant bustling city centres. There’s the Yorkshire Dales, North Yorkshire Moors, Peak District, Yorkshire Coast or if city life holds greater appeal, then you won’t have far to go with Leeds, Harrogate and York nearby, and Sheffield and Manchester just a little further afield. And when you compare Yorkshire house prices with the likes of those in London, well a move to Yorkshire only heightens in appeal!
Harvard operates a work hard, play hard ethos. We’re committed to rewarding the people who drive our success. We recognise that our employees are individuals who all have different values and therefore we offer a diverse range of benefits, ensuring we offer a rewarding environment to all of our employees.
We continue to review and enhance our employee reward packages to ensure we remain a competitive employer. We currently offer:
We pride ourselves on employing first-class employees and we know that good people have a wealth of opportunity. Your salary will be competitive and reflect your experience, skills and ability to contribute to Harvard’s success.
You’ll be enrolled onto our pension scheme after you’ve been with us three months and for the duration that you’re with us, we’ll help you save for your future by making ongoing contributions to your pension fund.
Having a family is an exciting time but also often an expensive one! Our Childcare Voucher scheme offers a tax-efficient way to save on your childcare costs, alleviating some of those demands on your pocket.
Cycle to Work Scheme
Yorkshire offers some fantastic cycling routes and with the breath-taking scenery that our home county offers, there’s no wonder that a number of our employees are keen cyclists. This scheme enables you to save on the cost of the bike and also spread the cost over 12 months. A financially viable way to get fit and help save the planet too!
Retail and Gym Discounts
We work with a provider that offers us the best employee discounts available. You can save on your spending with thousands of retailers – from everyday supermarket shops to those bigger purchases such as holidays or a new TV.
And for those that are into their fitness we also offer discounted membership at many high street gyms, saving employees up to £200 each year.
Death in Service Benefit
Whilst we hope that you’ll never need it, we also offer this element of reassurance during your employment with us, offering some financial security to your dependants, should the unthinkable happen (dependants will receive either two or three times your salary depending on your circumstances).
Graduate & Student Opportunities
When you join Harvard, either as an intern, or on a graduate scheme, we hope it will be the start of a great career with us. No matter what your role is, you’ll find that much of your development will come from mastering the job itself; after all, nothing stays the same here for long. We’ll help you get the most from your job with regular and straightforward feedback, so you’ll always know how you’re doing and how to improve.
We seek and support people who want to explore a different part of the business and our graduate schemes offer the chance to get involved in project work, short-term placements and longer term assignments within your chosen business area. Our graduates and interns are given the chance to get involved with value add business activity from day 1, working in an innovative and autonomous environment that encourages responsibility and accountability for actions and decisions taken.
We’ll support you every step of the way, giving you guidance and advice from experienced managers and mentoring and support from your more experienced colleagues.
We first introduced our Graduate Schemes in 2013 and they’ve grown and flourished to become one of our success stories here at Harvard. We began with a single Manufacturing Operations Graduate scheme and we’ve grown to operating a number of graduate schemes across various areas of the business, along with internships aimed at providing invaluable experience to undergraduates.

Joel, Supply Chain Manager
Joined our Manufacturing Operations Graduate scheme in 2013:
The Graduate Scheme at Harvard Technology has been a fantastic opportunity and has allowed me to rapidly learn about all aspects of manufacturing. I have just completed a project to determine the factory performance and make that data available to the whole business. I am currently working on a project with our suppliers to save us about £500,000 per year on our component pricing.
For me the best thing about working at Harvard is the size of the business. We have aspirations and our growth plans are offering real opportunities for employees. The key for me is that you feel that you really have a voice, that your ideas and input genuinely makes a difference.
I would definitely recommend the Harvard scheme to anyone who is looking to hit the ground running and quickly learn, contribute and make a real difference to their workplace
Emaad, Project Co-ordinator
Joined us in 2014 as Commercial Graduate:
After finishing my degree in Business Management, I wanted to join an innovative company that was a world leader within its industry but was also constantly growing and learning - this is what attracted me to Harvard.
The people I work with and the early responsibility I have been given has been great. Within just a few weeks of joining Harvard Technology I have already been responsible for updating and adding new products to our compatible partners’ websites, ensuring they have the correct Harvard products listed with the correct specifications. I am currently creating a development flow process for our light engine product range so that everyone in the business will have an overview of the stages involved and the time taken at each stage for the product to progress from concept to market.
If you like a challenge and want to be part of a fast growing, entrepreneurial company then I would definitely recommend Harvard Technology.
